Takii Europe

Takii Europe is responsible for breeding and developing new root vegetable and leaf vegetable varieties, as well as flower varieties. The subsection Research & Development is responsible for carrying out the relevant breeding programmes.

We are looking for a fulltime

(Junior) Breeder for onions

Main tasks

As a junior breeder you are involved in developing new onion varieties together with your colleague senior onion breeder. After a thorough training period of several years, you will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the breeding activities in the onion breeding program. You analyse and process research data from internal and external tests. You maintain close contacts with colleagues from R&D and other departments (Product Management, Sales, Production, etc.) within Takii, both in the Netherlands and internationally. As a breeder you travel internationally with the aim of visiting the selection fields in Europe.

You will report to the Head R&D and are based in De Kwakel near Aalsmeer.

Job requirements

You have completed a Master or PhD education with a specialization in plant breeding, plant genetics or related field. You have an affinity with field trials and preferably knowledge of the cultivation of vegetables. By education and experience you are familiar with molecular breeding techniques. You have knowledge of statistics and experimental design and an affinity with breeding software applications. An advantage is if you have already knowledge of the breeding of vegetable crops. You have a very good command of the Dutch and English language. Mastery of the Spanish or French language would be a plus. We would also like to see that you are innovative and creative, methodical and accurate and structured. You are able to convert knowledge into product innovation and you communicate smoothly at different levels.
